– Established in 2003 in Singapore with the aim of serving the money exchange market. The company started as ‘Sterling Exchange & Trading’ in a small rented unit at High Street, Satnam House thus sharing a portion of the main shop where it retailed convenience provision business. It started with a mere US$15,000 as a running capital, and moreover it had only 3 staffs when it started including me. The effort of our staffs and relentless hard work put by us into the business and with a strategic approach for every commitment, made the company grow into what is today with a total of 35 staffs in the driving force behind the Sterling Group. The exchange business is though competitive, it is usually profitable when taken care and run with caution. It is usually a native traditional business takeover from the elder generations who started this exchange business in Malaya and Singapore - but ironically we did not had any ancestors running this exchange business, but they we all in the office stationery & supplies business – which was started in 1967 with a group of 5 brothers.

Diversification - The Sterling group thought of tapping into the Health Care industry where it started as a small business in Singapore as ‘Liberty Precision & Trading’, in 2008 in its own premises in High street. The main aim of this establishment was to import and market small and medium sized devices that will not need any specialty training in specific. It aimed to market devices and equipment which will be used at home and clinics as well. It wanted to serve the consumers who will need personalized constant health monitoring and assisting the GP’s as well with a quick test result. It is now taking care of the ASEAN market that includes the Philippines, Myanmar, Vietnam, Brunei, Indonesia & Malaysia. The business was very carefully planned to counter all the requirements of various cities; each country was taken care by regional manager on the whole. Now it has a pool of approximately 50 importers in total for this region; who in turn is supplying to retailers in their own countries.

Regional Office – Setting up in India has been a long dream for the Sterling Group, in 2011 ‘Sterling Diagnostics & Therapy Equipment Pvt Ltd’ was established. It has an idea of just serving the Chennai market for a start – but to our astonishment business contacts from all over Tamilnadu came pouring within just a 6 months’ time. Again we had to expand our office space to accommodate with the work load and customer support. Imports from Taiwan, Japan and South Korea was its main in stream of foreign product imports, nevertheless we had a substantial amount of manufacturer within India itself who offered us of being their sole regional distributor. ‘ALTONA’ and ‘HAGEN’ were the trade marks for our home products. Equipment made under this name had to follow a strict QC and were also made in specific to the consumers daily interest. Showrooms in Coimbatore and Kumbakonam are the next plan for us. Plans are already on the way and exposition to will be made upon its fruition in the near future.
